More About Martin Ross

Martin is an accomplished wildlife photographer based in Cranbrook, British Columbia, in the spectacular Canadian Rocky Mountains. He is a national award-winning nature photographer, long-time individual member of the Canadian Association for Photographic Art and his publication credits include Canadian Geographic magazine. Originally, his interest in photography was sparked by many seasons of work as a park naturalist with Parks Canada and BC Parks. From there, his Master of Education degree led to a career in international education.
About Presentations
In the past few years, Martin has delivered numerous nature photography presentations to camera clubs throughout BC and Alberta and as far afield as Charlottetown, PEI.
His four nature photography presentations described below are available for booking. Since he is based in Cranbrook, BC, it is usually most convenient for these talks to be delivered online. However, with some advance planning, in-person presentations can often be arranged, especially in the Vancouver area, the interior of BC, and in Alberta.
Martin’s upbeat talks include “something for everyone” and are enjoyed by photographers of all skill levels. Typically, each presentation is organized as beads of instructional information strung together by a compelling storyline.

The Nature of Impact:

Yet, as obvious as impact can be, it often defies explanation and simply slips through our fingers as we attempt to analyze an image. This presentation looks beyond the smoke and mirrors of impact and reveals the very practical, underlying elements that work together to create the wow factor of great nature photographs, with applicability to photography in general.

Brown Bears and Puffins:
A Photography Adventure in Alaska
Martin recounts a wildlife photography trip to Alaska to world-famous Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park and to St. Paul Island in the middle of the Bering Sea.
St. Paul Island is home to tufted puffins, fur seals, and arctic foxes. Woven into the story are discussions of key wildlife photography and post-processing techniques such as sharpening and noise reduction.
